Asia Cup Hockey 2017: India Stops Malaysian Roll, Hosts Finally Win Despite Hattrick

2nd Day of Ranking matches saw dramatic results in three matches. While top favorite India drubbed Malaysia by a big margin stopping their roll, 2-time defending Champion South Korea had to settle for second consecutive draw in the race to final, and then a hattrick from China failed to stop the hosts, Bangladesh from registering their first win. Technically, all four teams are still in the race for final. To reach final in the last match, India needs just a draw, Pakistan must defeat India by a margin of 3 goals, South Korea must win and Malaysia must win. While yesterday 15 goals were scored, today 16 goals were scored.

Asia Cup 2017: Schedule and Results

India beats Malaysia 6-2
Indians registered their 6th won over Malaysia in 7 Asia Cup matches. The situation was different as Malaysia had not only won all the 4 matches of 2017 Asia Cup but also created two upsets by defeating South Korea and Pakistan. But, India showed why they are considered top favorite to win Asia Cup 2017 as they drubbed Malaysia for their biggest win of 6-2 against them at Asia Cup Hockey.

6 Indians scored a goal each and by the time Malaysians scored their first goal, Indians had already taken a lead of 5-0.

    Malaysian Goal scorers: Razie (50′), Rosli (59′)

Pakistan vs South Korea 1-1
South Koreans and Pakistan are in danger of being eliminated from the race to finals. Both played a draw and hold the bottom two position now. Pakistan took the lead in 15th minute through Ajaz Ahmad. South Koreans could just manage the equaliser through Lee Nam-yong in 48th minute.

Bangladesh Registers first win at home
Bangladesh team have been listless in the three matches at group stage. But, today they gave their local fans something to cheer with a tough win against China. They will now play Japan for 5th place. Today also they started with 0-2 deficit as Du Talake added one more to complete his hattrick. But, Islam, Hossain and Rahman made sure the scored was equalised at 3-3 during regulation time. In the shoot out, the hosts won 4-3 forcing China to play for 7th position against Oman.

Tomorrow Asia Cup 2017 has two matches scheduled where the ranking matches for 5th and 7th will be played.
