Sultan of Johor Cup 2017: Indians Seek 1st Bronze After Winning 2 Gold and 2 Silver

After losing two crucial matches, none can expect to be in final. 2-time champion Indian Under-21 team lost once each to 2015 champ Great Britain and 2016 Champ Australia. Now, they will play for third place tomorrow against the hosts, Malaysia. USA in the meanwhile went on a goal receiving spree. They did not score any but conceded 84 goals in 5 matches. Unbeaten Great Britain conceded the least 4 goals, while the other finalist Australians scored the maximum 32 goals, one more than Indians, who scored historical 22 goals against USA.

Sultan of Johor Cup 2017: Schedule and Results

After the end of 5 matches each at Pool stage for 6 teams, tomorrow three matches will decide the final rankings. Australia and Great Britain will play their 3rd final, having lost once each. Playing each other in the final of Sultan of Johor Cup for the first time 7 editions, both are in contention of matching Indian record of 2 titles in the tournament.

Indians, who won the title in 2013 and 2014 and lost the finals in 2012 (to Germany) and 2015 (to Great Britain), will play for third place for the second time in their 6th entry at Sultan of Johor Cup. They lost 3rd place match against South Korea in the first edition of 2011 Sultan of Johor Cup.

Malaysia, winner of the first edition in 2011, and Runners up in 2013, will play second time for 3rd place. They defeated Argentina in 2015 Sultan of Johor Cup to earn Bronze medal.
