Indian Women’s run to final was dominating. On the final day they played England and Singapore who have won maximum Table Tennis medals in the past. Surprising all, Indian women’s table tennis first defeated England in the semifinal and then went pass favorite Singapore women’s team to grab the first ever Gold medal for India in Women’s event of Table Tennis as Indians now have 4 Gold medals overall in this Sport, which is equal to Badminton and Athletics. It was the third Indian Gold for the day and overall 6th medal on Day 4 as Indians finished day tied with Canada at 7 Gold medals.

Manika Batra who had not lost any match during the tournament won two of the four rubber played during the finals and ensured that Indian Women’s team takes revenge against Singapore Women’s team who defeated them in 2010 Commonwealth Games final.
Manika Batra won the first rubber after being 1-2 behind. Madhurika Patkar lost the Singles and rubber was tied at 1-1. But, she partnered with Mouma Das to make up for her loss and Indians Doubles team got team to 2-1 lead and from there on it was again over to Manika Batra who ensured a win without losing a set to get India the historic Gold medal.
Indian Women’s Table Tennis certainly achieved much more than expectation. Congratulations Team India!
