Will it be 5th Whitewash in ODI for India, First for SL

As India and Sri Lanka play the last match of the 5-ODI series at Ranchi, the big word for both teams is Whitewash!! Will the India-SL ODI history record the first whitewash? After a 3-0 win in first ever series in 1982/83 by India, the best result between them have been 6-1 in 2005/06 when hurricane Dhoni announced his arrival in Indian Cricket. Since then India has won its 6th consecutive ODI series already against Sri Lankans now. India has been whitewashed twice and have made clean sweep over opponents on four occasions. Sri Lanka has never suffered a whitewash in their ODI history against any team.

When India was whitewashed in more than 3-ODI series
India has lost once by 6-1 vs West Indies, but a clean whitewash has been registered on 2 occasions, besides losing 4 of the 5 games on two more occasions.
Kapil Dev was the captin in 1983/84, Vengasarkar was the captain in 1988/89, Dravid was the captain in South Africa, while Dhoni was the captain in New Zealand.

Dhoni was the captain in both whitewashes vs England, while Gambhir was the captain when India whitewashed New Zealand. Kohli is the only Indian captain to register a whitewash for India abroad.
