In the first match of their respective pools in the BWF Super Series Masters 2014 Saina and Srikanth registered hard-earned wins. Both need at least 1 more win in the remaining two pool matches to enter the semifinal. Saina vs China battle was over took 58 minutes just to complete two games, while coming from behind Srikanth needed an hour to defeat his Japanese opponent in 3 sets.
BWF Super Series Masters 2014: Ranks and Names of Participants
Saina was crowd’s favorite at Dubai on the opening day when she played top seed of the tournament and her chinese nemesis Shixian Wang. Saina won 21-17 21-18. The match saw tempers rise. Both the players displayed high class fight for shuttle.
In the first game from 8-10, Saina went on to 18-10 winning 10 consecutive points. Still Shixian almost managed to catch her by counter attacks. But Saina prevailed 21-17. The second set was more close, but Saina managed to hold her nerves and emerged victorious.
Earlier both had met on 10 occasions and won 5 matches each. 4 of the last 5 matches were won by Shixian against Saina.
Srikanth continued his dream run of 2014. He defeated Momota Kento 15-21 21-16 21-10 coming from behind. Earlier they had met thrice and Momota led 2-1 with Srikanth winning their last match at China Open 2014. Today also, Momota won the first game, but Srikanth’s resolve saw him winning the next two sets.
Tomorrow, Saina plays Sung, Ji Hyun against whom she has won 4 matches but lost the last match they played at Denmark Open 2013.
Tomorrow, Srikanth plays Tommy Sugiarto. Srikanth lost the only match they have played so far at Malaysia Open 2014.
