World Cup Match 7: Bangladesh Tiger Roar After 105 run Win over Afghanistan

Match 7 was about self-belief. Bangladeshi Tigers were hurt after their loss to Afghanistan in 1st ODI they played last year and their victory lap after the win today proved how much the victory meant to them. Afghanistan on the other hand wanted to put up a good show playing their first World Cup match. They lost by 105 runs, but they must have felt confident about bowling as they controlled the Tigers bowling first except the decisive pair of Shakib and Mushfiqur. Both must have left the ground with increased self-belief.

Shakib and Mushfiqur Save Another Disaster, Bangladesh Score 267
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh were looking for another disaster against Afghanistan as they could not score freely and kept losing wickets. IN 30th over they were only 119/4. From there wicketkeepr and ex-captain Mushfiqur (71) joined Shakib (63) and with their 114 run partnership Bangladesh were able to post a decent score of 2677 runs.

Before and after their partnership, Bangladesh saw collapses. Opener Anamul (29), Tamim (19), Mahmudullah (23) found difficult to score. Soumya (28) gained momentum but could not survive longer. Sabbir (3), Mortaza (14), Mominul (3), Taskin (1) had no answers for disciplined Afghan attack.

For Afghanistan, Hamid Hassan (2/61) was the only one to complete his full quota of 10 overs. Captain Nabi (1/58 in 9), Aftab ALam (2/55 in 9), AHmadi (0/32 in 4.5) were too expensive. Mirwais (2/32 in 9) and Shapoor (2/20 in 7) were very economic. Even Shenwari gave only 2 runs in 1.1 overs he bowled.

Afghan Batsmen Fail
Like Bangladesh, even Afghanistan batting moving around one partnership of 5th wicket between Samiullah Shenwari (42) and Captain Nabi (44) who added 58 runs. Before that Ahmadi (1), Zazai (1) and Stanikzai (1) gave a nightmarish start to their chase as they reeled on 3/3 in 3 overs. Nawroz Mangal (27) struggled but gave some stability. After the 5th wicket partnership Zadran (17), Ashraf (10), Aftab (14) and Hamid (0) appeared nervous and they were bowled out in 42.5 overs to end their first World Cup match with a loss by 105 runs.

For Bangladesh, captain Mortaza was the key who grabbed 3/20 that included the first two of the three wickets. Rubel Hossain (1/27 in 6) grabbed the second wicket. Taskin Ahmed (1/23 in 7), Mahmudullah (1/31 in 8) were economic. Shakib (2/43 in 8.5) was also successful although comparatively expensive. Soumya (0/13 in 3) and Sabbir (0/4 in 1) also bowled.
