World Cup Match 9: Southee & Baz Crush England

As cricket fans were expecting the first close game of world cup, New Zealand vs England came out to be the most one-sided game played so far in 2015 World Cup. First Southee’s swing generated a batting collapse, and then Captain McCullum’s attack. Morgan ended up regretting his decision to bat first.

England bowled out for 123
England expected challenging match. But nobody had expected a one-sided match. Electing to bat first they were in trouble with score reading 57/3 in 13.1 overs as Ian Bell (8), Moeen ALi (20) and Ballance (10) fell. Root (46) and Morgan (17) pushed it to 103/3 runs in the next 12.5 overs.

Vettori opened the flood gates with Morgan’s wicket. In his second spell Southee grabbed the next 5 wickets that included last match hero Taylor (0), Butler (3), Woakes (1), Broad (4) and Finn (0). Milne took the last wickewt of Root that prevented Southee from equalling world record 8 wickets in an inning.

New Zealand’s swing and spin bowlers did not give England any chance to recover. Southee (7/33), Boult (1/32), Vettori (1/19) and Milne (1/25) bundled them up, while Anderson (0/8 in 2) was the only boowler to have not got any wicket.

New Zealand Chased in a Jiffy
Brendum McCullum aggravated English pain further by challenging all records linked to quick run scoring. Captain Brendum McCullum hit 7 6s and 8 4s to score 25-ball 77 runs. He punished Finn (0/49 in 2 overs), Broad (0/27 in 2.2) the most. Even Anderson (0/37 in 5) shared some pain. With Captain, Guptill (22 runs) added 105 runs for the 1st wicket. Kane Williamson (9) and Ross Taylor (5) took New Zealand to 8 wicket’s win in 12.2 overs.

For England, Chris Woakes was the only positive as he returned with the figure of 2/8 in 3 overs with an unbelievable maiden over bowled to Guptill post.

New Zealand move to a week’s rest with 3 straight wins, and a second consecutive crushing win. After losing to Australia, England lost their 2nd consecutive match, and a loss to any Associates or Bangladesh may knock them out of the World Cup at group stage only.
