PV Sindhu registered another impressive win and entered her second consecutive Hong Kong Open Super Series Finals. While other Indians lost in Round 2, she has registered convincing wins over last week’s 2017 China Open Super Series winner Akane Yamaguchi and 2017 Denmark Open winner Intanon. Now, in a repeat of 2016 Hong Kong Open finals Sindhu meets Tai Tzu Ying. While the win will be a sweet revenge of her loss last year at Hong Kong, it will get her in the elite list of Indians (with Saina Nehwal and Srikanth) who have won 3 or more Super Series Finals in a calendar year. Prakash Padukone in 1982 and Saina Nehwal in 2010 had won Hong Kong Open titles.
Having lost 4 of the 5 career matches against Intanon, PV Sindhu had a tough challenge against her. But, she managed to win in straight sets entering Hong Kong Super Series finals for the second consecutive year. She will now face the top seed Tai Tzu Ying who has won their last 3 matches, including two in 2017 and against whom Sindhu trails 3-7. In 2016 Hong Kong Open Super Series also, both these entered the finals where Sindhu lost in straight sets. Sindhu is one win away from being the third Indian after Saina and Srikanth to grab minimum three Super Series titles in one calendar year.
