As Sri Lankan squad is visiting India for a back-to-back Bilateral series, the biggest question in everyone’s mind is not about the final result but can Sri Lanka save successive 0-9 defeat!! They lost the bilateral series at home by a rare 9-0 margin losing all the matches of tour that included 3 Test matches, 5 ODIs and a T20I. In India, they will play 3 matches in each format. Considering the ease of win and number of records created at Sri Lanka, Indian fans will not be expecting any losses during the tour by Sri Lankans under Chandimal. Probably weather could be the biggest saviour and the venue of first test, Kolkata is already suffering from continuous rains before the starting match of the tour.
India Test squad for the first two Tests: Virat Kohli (Captain), KL Rahul, M Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-Captain), Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha (WK), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma.
At Kolkata , Indians have just lost 1 test in their last 10 matches and improved their record to 12 wins in in 40 test matches. In the last 15 bilateal test series, Indians have won 8 of them and Sri Lankans are yet to win any series in India despite winning their first ever test series in 1982 against India. In the 41 test matches played from 1982, Indians have won 19 and lost only 7.
While with 105 wickets in 22 test matches Muralitharan had been the biggest factor in bowling between these two teams, Ashwin threatens all bowling records having taken 38 wickets in just 6 test matches against Sri Lanka.
Of the 96 test centuries scored between these two teams, Tendulkar leads with 9 centuries. Among the current tems members of both squad Shikhar Dhawan has scored 3 centuries and Kohli has 2 centuries.
