Beijing Asian Games created a big divide between China and rest of Asia. The hosts won more than 30% of the medals, 183 of the 310 Gold medals and other countries including India had their worst show. Indians finished 12th with 23 medals that included just one Gold medal, won in Kabaddi that was introduced in 1990 Asian Games and since then India has been the undisputed champion of this Sports in both Men’s and Women’s event.

Indian Men settled for another Silver while Women were pushed to 4th place. Men’s team lost to undefeated Pakistan while won remaining 5 to finish 2nd at Round Robin. Women’s team lost matches against the top three, winning two.

On debut, the Sports was played as Round Robin for Men’s event. Indians won all the 5 matches scoring maximum 234 points and conceiding the leaast 84 points. With a Points difference of +150 they were the clear Gold medal winner. Being tied on points, in a Playoff Bangladesh defeated Pakistan 19-18 to win Silver.
