Busan, South Korea: The first-ever Asian Women’s Hockey Champions Trophy was organised in Busan, South Korea. Besides the host, China, India and Japan participated. Before arriving for the tournament, Indian coach was sacked after being reported for abuse of Women’s Hockey Team. Sruprisingly, the players showed their mettle by winning the Bronze.
13th ranked India defeated China to win the bronze. Surprisingly the World Number 3 team China finished last in the four nation Asia Cup. For India Saba Anjum and skipper Surinder Kaur struck the goals, while Chinese tasted first blood when wang Mengyu got them in lead. Final result 2-1.
Without any surprise, the mentally tortured Indian women team has lost all the matches at group stage. Their win against China must be counted as one of their best win ever, considering they were fighting their recent victimized history.
The top four teams of the last Asia Cup played the Champions trophy. India won silver at Bangkok, and qualified for the FIH World Cup to be held at Rosario, Argentina in August-September, 2010.
