1998 Football World Cup: France becomes the 7th Champion

France hosted the 16th FIFA World Cup and became the 6th host and 7th champion of the FIFA World Cup. France hosted it across 10 venues from 10th June to 12th July. besides the host and the defending champion. 32 teams played in the tournament for the first time with 30 teams qualifying from the pool of 174 teams from six confederations. While the hosts won first time, Croatia finishing third was a surprise result.
