2020 Olympics: India in Boxing

Indians sent 9 pugilists to Tokyo Olympics. The five men and four women earned their spots by winning medals at different international events. For the second time, Indian women participated. 2012 Olympics winner, Mary Kom, and three others formed the Indian Women’s team. Lovlina Borgohain won Bronze medal, making two medals in two Olympics for Indian women pugilists.

  • Amit Ponghal was ranked World No. 1 just before Olympics.
  • Satish Kumar was the only one from 5-member Men’s team to win a bout. He reached QF.
  • Indians won third medal in Boxing. Vijender Singh and Mary Kom had won Bronze medal before.
